Quick Verdict: Two guys bicker for years

This was always going to be a hard sell for me. Illusion shows are not for me. None of it is actually magic, so stop calling it magic. Anyway, that’s a rant for another time.

Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale work together at a theatre. When a trick goes horribly wrong and Hugh’s wife dies, he blames Christian, and so begins years of rivalry and trying to get each other back, with dire consequences.

The best part of the film is the direction from Christopher Nolan. He knows how to keep audiences guessing well into the end credits. My problem is with the story, and the stupid characters. I found both leads very annoying and couldn’t relate to either of them.

The trickery and misdirection of the film was better than the tricks within it, which is what kept me watching it. Overall though, I’d rather have watched a film about Andy Serkis and David Bowie’s characters.
