Quick Verdict – Fill me with a tank full of Mad Max
Mad Max goes mad in the follow up to the 1979 hit. The Road Warrior (Mad Max 2) finds Max drifting through the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Australia. He drives aimlessly looking for fuel and out running mental gangs.
I find it quite hard to believe that George Miller, the creator of the Mad Max world also directed Happy Feet 1 & 2 and Babe: Pig in the City. But it happened. In this film, Miller’s world has suffered nuclear war, Max has survived and has left his cop days behind him. In search of fuel he finds an oil refinery under attack by an evil gang lead by Lord Houmungus. And he is pretty big. Forced to help the owners of the Oil Refinery in exchange for fuel and the return of his car. Max treats us to one of the greatest chase screens ever put together. Explosions, collisions, more collisions, more explosions. It is a 30 minute climactic masterpiece.
People have said the lack of plot and dialogue leaves you missing something, but I find it just enhances the mystique of the film and gives you more that way. A simple film, with a singular aim. To entertain. Where will they go from here?
