Quick Verdict – X-Men: The Next Generation
When Bryan Singer started announcing the cast for this film, I was like an excitable child. What’s not to love? Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage and many many many many more. But with a cast so big and an epic storyline to suit, you couldn’t help but be a little worried.
Well, worry no more. As soon as the first time traveling trailer arrived I was at the edge of my seat, and any fears drifted away. I booked tickets for preview night and after I watched it, I’d have been happy to watch it again the next night.
It had everything. Excitement, action, heart and most importantly, plot. With a cast as big as this, you are always going to want more of some characters, but I think Bryan did a superb job of getting everyone a decent amount of screen time.
I will admit, it isn’t without its faults. Being a time travel movie you are always going to point out flaws and it has a few. But my main concern is the lack of explanation to a certain characters miraculous recovery to be part of the film. I mean not even a single passing remark.
All in all though, Bryan has continued the great X-Men revival as started by Matthew Vaughn in First Class, and has given enough to entice us back for X-Men: Apocalypse.
